Divorce Rates Around The Globe
Divorce around our globe certainly has increased over the last decade. As marriage is becoming less and less popular and women gain more powerful roles in society, of course it makes sense that marriage isn’t as popular. That’s not to say marriage isn’t still popular or happening, in fact the rate of marriages has also increased, as has our population. We’ve all heard the constant statistic, “50% of all marriages end in divorce.” But do we really know that to be true? The statistic itself is very vague and leaves many questions unanswered. This article will highlight what exactly is going on with marriage and divorce, not only in America, but also around the globe.
The Divorce Rate In America Is Actually Decreasing!
That’s right, you read correctly; the divorce rate in America has actually dropped from 52% to 46% as of 2018. This means that marriage is actually being taken much more seriously instead of “impulsively” which the older generations so graciously loved to treat marriage in an impulsive manner. That is why people aren’t getting married until they are much older now. In the 60’s marriage at the age of 18 and 20 was quite common, now, the average age is around 30. At an older age, you are not only more mature, but you are also much more financially stable.
Globally, the Divorce Rate is Increasing
Just because the rate of divorce is decreasing in some countries, doesn’t mean it is in others. In fact, in countries like Russia, Spain, and France, the rate of separation is increasing by the year. Below is a list of the top ten countries divorce rates:
- Luxembourg 86%
- Spain 65%
- France 55%
- Russia 51%
- USA 46%
- Germany 44%
- UK 42%
- New Zealand 42%
- Australia 38%
- Canada 38%
